“I have a sworn duty to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law. I must vote to impeach.” Believe it or not, those words are from Ohio Senator Rob Portman about the impeachment of another president.Full Story... →
I’ve been poking around the post-shutdown comments to get a greater understanding of how the commander-in-chief’s brain-locked base reacted to his retreat from demanding big money for his storied wall. The tense body language of his apologists told me that they are struggling to make sense of their favorite president.
They have been squirming. Making lame excuses. Some even abandoning their faith that he would indeed Make America Great Again on the backs of brown-skinned terrorists. It was ugly and the polls reflected the despair.
The twiggish and loopy Ann Coulter, for example, who […]Full Story... →
Can we now agree that Donald Trump’s cancellation of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s flight on a military aircraft to Afghanistan was a grounded “Hail Mary” that solved nothing more than to satisfy his own ego against THAT WOMAN?
We should understand that Trump has never had to suffer a female opponent in which cash was not an important element. His only commitment since moving into the Oval Office was to advance his notions of a White (Guy) House without any threat to his universal power.
And as we have seen, he has again overestimated his assumed manly authority: Pelosi is […]Full Story... →
You have to hand it to Republicans. They know how to play hardball and show their deftness in navigating that Potomac swamp they’ve not yet bothered to drain.
How appropriate that a former attorney general, the very guy who previously showed his expertise in crafting presidential pardons has, in the heightening Trump-Russia investigation, been chosen to be the next attorney general. What timing. How coincidental.
The nomination of William Barr to be the next attorney general has raised controversy because of his previously expressed strong views about the Mueller investigation. In fact, some have suggested that the 19-page memo […]Full Story... →
Let’s admit it. We’ve all had severe cases of writers’s block in our lives. Yes, not only in school, when that big paper was due but later, as adults, when we struggled in penning a letter to someone when we were uncomfortable with the task.
It’s been a while, but writer’s block has also afflicted me in one particular way. Big time.
In order to remedy this ailment, I’m making another attempt to rid myself of a very specific type of writer’s block, viz., how to compose a piece that will convey something very positive about Donald Trump.
Sure, […]Full Story... →
As videos remind us of Michael Flynn’s harsh demands against Hillary Clinton to “lock her up”, there is growing speculation that he will not be imprisoned for his disgraceful role in the Russia probe. The debate over Flynn’s fate as a mob canary will extend to both sides of special counsel Robert Mueller’s penetrating reach.
At this point, does it really matter? The disgraced general has already condemned himself ago to imprisonment in the pages of history books from which he can’t escape – now and forever.
That leads me to ask why people are so willing to give up their name, honor, and reputation in their […]Full Story... →
It was a brutal week for Donald Trump, who was upstaged at the G-20 assembly of world leaders in Buenos Aires, a would-be superstar who was adrift in a sea of confusion and bad news.
I caught a glimpse of him in the small crowd as Vladimir Putin and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman gleefully bonded in front of the global cameras like uniting fraternity brothers. But our guy was outvoted 19-1 on climate change and didn’t appear to be taken seriously about anything.
When it was time to go home he was seen tramping around the others as though his next step […]Full Story... →
Mike DeWine has lied his way through every single step of his gubernatorial campaign. The Republican candidate for governor in Ohio is the latest in a long line of GOP officials who will shamelessly lie, cheat and steal to gain power by any means necessary.
Combing through the lengthy archives of Politifact or the Columbus Dispatch’s AdWatch reveals just how often DeWine outright lies to or misleads Ohio’s voters. In all honesty, it’s difficult to keep track of how often DeWine lies to our faces, but here’s my best effort.
DeWine’s been labeled as “pulling info from […]Full Story... →
What’s wrong with this picture?
In New York, President Trump is selling off the world at the United Nations on why America must be first. About everything.
In Washington, Republican white guys on the Judiciary Committee who are too many years beyond retirement age are trying to set the stage to install another white guy – Brett Kavanaugh by name – on the U.S. Supreme Court regardless of the male-female optics of interrogating a woman who has accused Kavanaugh for being terribly full of predatory sexual mischief as a teenager.
But why is it taking so long? Particularly after the capo di […]Full Story... →
Anyone who doubts that Judge Brett Kavanaugh would target Roe v. Wade as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice might want to check the name, Leonard Leo. He is the executive vice president of the conservative 60,000 member Federalist Society, a legal group that has no small influence along Potomac waters.
The society submitted a couple of lists of possible presidential nominees before Kavanaugh was chaperoned to Trump by Leo, a well-tailored live-wire anti-abortionist who was described in the New Yorker last year by Jeffrey Toobin “as being shaped as much by Catholicism as by conservatism.” Toobin quoted Leo:
“My grandparents were deeply religious people, […]Full Story... →
I’ve been having a terrible time trying to erase from my memory the so-called confirmation hearing for Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court. That soaring appointment was assured when President Trumpalooka chose him as the pick of the right-wing litter – an appellate judge who wasn’t even on the original list of the conservative Federalist Society’s array of recommended space fillers to replace Justice Kennedy.
But with Trumpalooka bossing the Oval Office these troubled days, do we really need another hint of how it all came about to satisfy a base of pro-lifers?
He will be confirmed and […]Full Story... →
