This column is premised on a truth I’ve discovered over nearly forty years of practicing law and working in politics. Conservatives are weak. They lack the self-discipline to grasp what conservatism actually means and if they actually understood the doctrine, they wouldn’t believe in it. Donald Trump has destroyed what little that remained of conservatism. Liberals are now responsible for the future of the United States.
July 16, 2018, brought America to a turning point. No American will ever again be able to honestly defend Donald Trump. Trump publicly took sides against the United States by believing that Vladimir Putin […]Full Story... →
… I will begin by saying what everybody would like to ignore or forget but which must nevertheless be stated, namely, that we have sustained a total and unmitigated defeat…
A total and unmitigated defeat. Note to Donald Trump: that means not winning.
These words were not spoken by talking heads in the aftermath of the debacle in Helsinki on July 16. But they should have. In fact, they were uttered 80 years ago in the House of Commons by Winston Churchill.
The appalling spectacle of Donald Trump and his lapdog performance in the Finnish capital as […]Full Story... →
When it comes to expressions of patriotism in perilous times, silence is not golden. Among Republicans, John McCain clearly knows that.
The sounds of silence coming from congressional Republicans in the wake of the indictments of twelve more Russian intelligence officers that have been forensically linked to the 2016 election debacle have been deafening. That’s why John McCain’s statement on the matter has become a singular sensation, for there is no one else in his party that is so demonstrative in putting country, rather than party, first in mind.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the Republican Party has […]Full Story... →
Putting his father’s presidency in jeopardy, Donald Trump, Jr. has opened a door that can’t be shut. I still think President Trump will resign by the end of this year (see my post of May 18) and for the same reason.
He doesn’t want the American people to know about his business dealings with Russia. He now knows, or at least should know, that Independent Counsel Robert Mueller will investigate those transactions. How will we get from here to there? There is no sure way to predict, but that’s what makes prediction fun.
There is no […]Full Story... →
I know a lot of Republicans read Plunderbund. I assume they are all patriotic Americans. So we’re gonna go back to Tim, Guy Who Lived And Worked In The Former Soviet Republics, Russo. Just for you guys.Full Story... →
When you stop to think about it, it’s breathtaking really what this new President is accomplishing. One day the biggest reform of healthcare in our lifetimes, the next day? Oh, just a nuclear arms treaty with Russia scaling back large stockpiles of nuclear weapons still left over from The Cold War.

Juan Cole tells us Bush has a great deal to do with Russia even thinking it could pull this off without retribution:
The run-up to the current chaos in the Caucasus should look quite familiar: Russia acted unilaterally rather than going through the U.N. Security Council. It used massive force against a small, weak adversary. It called for regime change in a country that had defied Moscow. It championed a separatist movement as a way of asserting dominance in a region it coveted.
Indeed, despite George W. Bush and Dick Cheney’s howls of outrage at Russian aggression in […]Full Story... →
In case you wanted to know more about the news of Russia going to war with Georgia, Tim’s place is where to go. Nobody else in Ohio is able to talk with as much experience and authority as he. Some very good insights. This is the latest:
The only way to reverse this situation is to elect Barack Obama president. That may sound convenient for an Obama supporter, but it is plainly a fact. Because the only way American power will be restored to a point where a country like Georgia isn’t a sitting duck in Russian gunsights, is […]Full Story... →
