Thanks to attorney J.M. Burke for this guest post on Trump’s immigration executive order and what you can do to fight it.
The drama taking place on our borders strikes at our nation’s heart. And those of us located far from the front lines can help. Here’s how.
First, some background (because knowledge is power). Executive orders are used by Presidents to guide and shape policy. But a President must be authorized to issue such orders. In this case, Congress granted the President authority to keep people out of the country for pretty much any reason in 1952.

And lives up to his show’s self-billing by taking on Fox News’ crown jewel, Sarah Palin:
Bill O’Reilly gets her to admit that the 12 million undocumented immigrants are going to have to be given some process to obtain legal status to live and work in the United States. Palin, though, opposes amnesty.
Jesus, there’s so much unbelievable stuff going on in this clip that I don’t have the breadcrumbs to find my way back.Full Story... →
In the background as I filled out my Cleveland Stonewall Democrats endorsement questionnaire was Barack giving his speech today on immigration reform. It reminded me of his Philadelphia speech on race during the campaign. No applause interruptions, because it was weighty. He finished by quoting Emma Lazarus’ poem on the Statue of Liberty. Like the race speech, this one will be quoted in history books.
The political calculation to emphasize immigration reform in this mid-term election is risky, but I think a good idea for Barack and for Democrats. Nothing repulses independent voters than the way Republicans let their […]Full Story... →
After years of getting free public education and, most likely, ripping off the American health care system for tons of cash- the son of illegal Mexican immigrants just won a gold medal in wrestling for the US.
I say we arrest him and his seven siblings – along with their dead beat illegal immigrant mother – and send them back to Mexico where they belong.
We’ll keep the gold medal to help pay for some of that lost stolen education and healthcare money.Full Story... →
We’ve got more anti-immigrant legislation working its way through the House.
If passed, the bill would “require that commercial driver’s license tests be given in English.” ( Currently the test is given in 7 different languages. )
Do I really need to explain why this is a bad idea?
It does nothing to help non-native English speakers integrate into English-speaking society and it discriminates against would-be drivers on the basis of national origin.
It’s also really bad for business. Foreign companies do […]Full Story... →
It looks like Mecklenborg’s useless, English-Only bill is currently moving through the Senate and will probably hit the floor for a vote tomorrow.
According to the Senate committee schedule, the second hearing for HB 477 is being held today.
In case you haven’t been paying attention, HB 477 will make English the “required language for official proceedings” of State Government.
Mecklenborg, the bill’s sponsor, claims it is not an English-Only bill and that it will help promote English learning among immigrants.
Unfortunately, both of these statements are lies. The bill IS, in fact, an English-Only bill […]Full Story... →
It’s often claimed by those who oppose immigration (illegal or not) that immigrants commit crime at an alarming rate and are a threat to public safety. Turns out, it isn’t true.
People born outside the United States make up about 35 percent of California’s adult population but account for about 17 percent of the adult prison population, the report by the Public Policy Institute of California showed.
According to the report’s authors the findings suggest that long-standing fears of immigration as a threat to public safety are unjustified. The report also noted that U.S.-born adult men are incarcerated at […]Full Story... →
Joseph ranted about the latest Ken Blackwell nonsense this morning, but I feel compelled to reply as well. This one is all about how the poor little Salvation Army is being sued for discriminating against employees who weren’t fluent in English, when in fact, by practicing discriminatory hiring practices they are allegedly doing immigrants a favor!
Well, [Gomer Pyle] suprise-suprise-surprise! [/Gomer Pyle], Ken neglected to mention a few important things.
?Under Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC?s) guidelines, an English-only rule violates the law unless the employer can provide a legitimate business justification for forcing employees to stop […]Full Story... →
From our friends on the right:
I had forgot I even recorded this. From our friends at the now defunct Wide Awakes Radio, Weapons of Mass Discussion, and Kender’s Musings. They came up with this great idea to build a huge concrete wall and while doing so we can toss in any illegals we catch. Haha!
But wait! There’s more!
We can also award military personnel with chances to shoot illegals on pay-per-view TV when we open a small door each month to let some of the wetbacks in to shoot!
Ha Ha!!! Hahahahahahaha!!

First the party was forced to admit it had hired a Canadian citizen with no political experience to be its new political director, under the H-1B visa program — a program that grants temporary visas. Now revelations have surfaced that the party’s chief operating officer, an Australian citizen, was ordered deported in 2001, spent one month in jail and then filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging wrongful arrest.
In case you aren’t familiar, […]Full Story... →
Now we are turning back an Iraqi women who fled the country because she was raped by some of Saddam’s henchmen. Where are we sending her back to? War torn Iraq of course! Why? Because she fled to Mexico in order to get here. She was unaware of the policy that we hate anyone who crosses that border.
