Shame on me.
As Donald Trump puffed up in his comfort zone – another defining moment for the gangland Don – with his Supreme nominee standing by – we awaited the flood of clichés that would seal Trump’s latest bond with his sacred base. No hyperbolic flame could be a hotter reminder that the U.S. Constitution was in the safest hands. Even the nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, told us so. ” Impeccable!” “Unsurpassed!” roared The Don…Al dente.
There had been days of speculation that a Kavanaugh on the Court would be the vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, thus sending desperate women into dark alleys with […]Full Story... →
The priest’s greeting to the newly-married couple and the congregation gathered to support them in the United States Naval Academy chapel was warm and moving. May all of you experience and share the peace within you, the chaplain said to all.
You can certainly expect peace and love at a wedding when two families come together to celebrate the union of their children as they prepare their lives together. But there was also an added element in visiting the beautiful and charming city of Annapolis last weekend, the scene of a mass shooting just before the wedding of a family […]Full Story... →
Nelsonville City Councilman and 94th District State Representative Candidate Taylor Sappington announced on social media that he will not accept money from corporations or billionaires.
“I refuse to accept any corporate money into my campaign,” says Sappington. “…it is unethical and is corrosive to our democracy to take corporate money and then turn around and tell the people that you actually stand for them. Folks down here can and should see right through that type of dishonesty.”
The 94th House District is comprised of Meigs County, and parts of Athens, Washington and Vinton Counties. And fitting for […]Full Story... →
In this political atmosphere, I have tried to remain optimistic. Have things been dreadful? Yes. Have I sometimes lost hope? Of course. Yet I have tried to remind myself that we only have to endure a Trump presidency for 926 more days. I have encouraged those around me to volunteer on campaigns and help Democrats take the House back in the fall (fingers crossed!). While citizen activism is useful, my true beacon of hope during this time has been the Supreme Court, telling myself that of course, they must see Trump’s actions as unconstitutional.
This obviously has changed within the […]Full Story... →
The fight for the special election in House District 12 to replace Rep. Pat Tiberi has seen its fair share of attack ads. This is especially true from Republican candidate Troy Balderson. Attack ads seem to be all the craze these days, so I think I can speak for all of us when I say that ads highlighting a candidate’s leadership abilities are refreshing. That is exactly what is done in Democratic candidate Danny O’Connor’s recent ad, ‘Shannon’.
The spot features Shannon Ward, a mother of two from Delaware, OH, who voted for President Donald Trump in 2016. […]Full Story... →
Is it possible that the Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, a guy who enjoys raising a glass or two of the vintage, might be in collusion with a popular language website for the purpose of giving us a heads-up about some major events to come?
Probably not, but it would make a good story if it were true.
The only major collusion going on these days seems to be with the ever-bloviating Sean Hannity of Fox News, along with that other intelligence committee headed by Representative Devin Nunes, the stalwart Trump defender who is otherwise incapable […]Full Story... →
Ohioans for Economic Opportunity, an advocacy group previously featured on our site, has come out with a new ad campaign urging Congressman Steve Chabot (OH-01) to end his cowardly behavior and face his constituents. The TV and radio spots are part of a $250,000 campaign targeting Chabot on his lack of explanation for why he voted to sabotage their access to health care by undermining the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The new spot, “Questions”, includes real Ohioans hosting a town hall with an empty pulpit as their launch their concerns with many of […]Full Story... →
