The fight for the special election in House District 12 to replace Rep. Pat Tiberi has seen its fair share of attack ads. This is especially true from Republican candidate Troy Balderson. Attack ads seem to be all the craze these days, so I think I can speak for all of us when I say that ads highlighting a candidate’s leadership abilities are refreshing. That is exactly what is done in Democratic candidate Danny O’Connor’s recent ad, ‘Shannon’.

The spot features Shannon Ward, a mother of two from Delaware, OH, who voted for President Donald Trump in 2016. She also admits to voting for Gov. John Kasich three times, including in the Ohio presidential primary. However, since meeting O’Connor, Ward is supporting his run in Ohio’s 12th Congressional District special election.

“I voted for John Kasich the last 3 times, I voted for Trump because I didn’t like the way things were going in Washington, and now I’m supporting Danny O’Connor,” Ward says in the video. “John Kasich and Danny O’Connor both don’t worry about the labels of Democrat or Republican, they’re going to get things done either way.”

Ward said she met O’Connor and he was “very genuine,” “energetic, young,” and brought a “new perspective.” (All stated in the ad.)

The race to fill the seat is in its last month. Both candidates are trying to fill the airwaves with their message and goals before the special election. However, it is clear that one candidate is presenting their authenticate self a little better than the other. If you live in Congressional District 12, don’t forget that election day is August 7, with early voting beginning July 10!
