If anyone needs further proof of the vast range of the Trump Organization (um, the family business) you need only to consider how one major Ohio institution is meeting its financial needs. In 2018, the Cleveland Clinic, a widely respected medical epicenter, will sponsor its second fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump’s Edenic hideaway ( complete with more than 70 non-documented foreign workers exempted from immigration restrictions) ) in
The Clinic’s decision has already drawn protests from professional staffers and the media. But when you are following the money you are never confident where it will lead you.
One of the resisters is ProgressOhio, the Columbus- based operation that has called for people to sign petitions against the fundraiser. In a letter to the public, ProgressOhio declared:
“This is unacceptable. The Cleveland Clinic is one of the top hospitals in the world and by patronizing Trump the Clinic is financially and symbolically supporting his agenda – including decreasing access to healthcare and cutting billions of dollars in medical research funding. The Clinic shouldn’t be in the habit of personally enriching a politician whose policies would harm its patients.”
ProgressOhio said a contract for the 2018 fundraiser has yet to be signed .
I spent a lot of time this morning trying to reach somebody in media relations at the Clinic for more details. (Getting the White House to respond would be much easier.) But at this writing, no callback from its battery of media people.
Someday the companies, institutions and politicians who do business with Donald Trump & Family will end up paying for it.
