Surprise! Anti-Gay Rights School Board Member Supports Gender Identity/Bathroom Restrictions

Shortly after being elected to the Ohio Board of Education in 2012, Sarah Fowler told the Education Action Group Foundation about her plans to combat the liberal conspiracy that had taken hold in Ohio’s schools: “Gay rights, Marxist ideals, and other elements of the left’s political agenda have slowly crept into school lesson plans with the help of teachers unions and their allies… and it’s important to counter that influence to provide students with a proper education.”
So when the Obama Administration sent a letter of guidance to schools last month directing them to allow students to use bathrooms that match their gender identity, Fowler’s home-schooled sensibilities were shocked. In response, she decided she wants to send all the schools her own letter that includes Ohio AG (and candidate for Governor) Mike Dewine’s response arguing schools should be able to decide for themselves if they want to discriminate against kids who would like to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity.
Fowler is a “home-schooled former egg farmer from rural Ashtabula County.” She lives in Rock Creek, OH with her parents. In her late 20s, she is the youngest member of the school board.
