“I’m so excited to ask you this: Would you like to join me as a member of LGBT and our allies for Hillary?” Latin music pop star Ricky Martin blasted out to Hillary supporters last weekend.
“Today, we’re launching this new group of Hillary fans who are committed to continuing the fight for full equality for all Americans — regardless of gender or sexuality,” he said in an email.
Mr. Martin, whose song “Living La Vida Loca” took the world by storm and catapulted him into pop music stardom, added, “Gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights.”
He wants everyone to know that Mrs. Hillary, whose most recent spotlight job was to be Secretary of State for President Obama during his first term, has been a fighter for the LGBT community for years.
“From supporting equal workplace legislation to working for equal rights for trans Americans…Now we’re standing with her. Will you join us?”
Growing up in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico, Mr. Martin said he never dreamed that one day he would “be a proud, out gay father of two beautiful little boys, in a country where marriage equality was the law of the land. Now, that’s just an average day — that’s what real progress is.”
Ricky Martin said “Hillary knows this, and she’s not going to stop fighting” to protect and build on the progress made so far.
