The closest thing Ohioans got to a televised debate int this year’s race for Ohio governor was a video posted by the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The PD recorded their joint editorial board interview with John Kasich, Ed FitzGerald and Green Party Candidate Anita Rios and posted it online.

In the video, we got to see FitzGerald fired-up and on message while Kasich slumped in his chair, refused to acknowledge the other candidates and ignored repeated attempts by PD staff to answer even basic questions about his policies and programs.

If you wondered why Kasich rejected multiple debate offers from FitzGerald this […]

All of the Ohio House and one third of the Senate are up for reelection this year. With the gerrymander from hell in full effect, there will likely be little movement in its composition. Another two years of absurdest, Republican radicalism will bring Ohio one step closer to being another Kansas and a lab and test market for draconian actions to create a Conservative utopia.

The gerrymandered districts will also restrict any real change in Ohio’s US House delegation. It will stay overwhelmingly Right Wing Republican. The days of Ohio as a moderate force in American politics is in the past, for now.

Well, folks, it’s time for Who Do You Trust? Hubba Hubba Hubba, money, money, money, Who Do You Trust?

Ohio’s Republican Secretary of State, Jon Husted, launched a whopper of a campaign ad this week against Democratic opponent Nina Turner, entitled—you guessed it—Trust.

It really is a hoot, complete with condescending voiceover, static pictures of Turner wrapped in sepia tones, and spurious personal charges. It concludes by asserting Turner can’t be trusted before cutting to a slow-pan, full-color shot of the Family Husted in Sunday casual exchanging loving glances.

The tedious display of Poli-Ad, 100-level hackery, combined with Husted’s record in […]

Readers of the Columbus Dispatch were treated to a recent report showing that board members of a North Side charter school asked their management company to reduce a $700,000 per year rent payment to a subsidiary so they could free up more money for things like reading materials, a school nurse and teacher pay.  The response from the school’s management company, Virginia-based Imagine Schools, was tone-deaf and totally inappropriate:

An official with Imagine Schools Inc. suggested that the board “celebrate” teachers in other ways, such as having cake for them at the next board meeting….

The person who favors cake over compensation is […]

The Libertarian candidate for Attorney General, Steve Linnabary, has now endorsed the Democratic candidate for Attorney General, David Pepper, after the Republican Secretary of State, Jon Husted, kicked him off the ballot earlier this year.

Husted also kicked Libertarian candidate for governor Charlie Earl off the ballot, because Fk democracy, apparently.

“Libertarians in Ohio have been targeted repeatedly by the powerful GOP machine. We’ve learned that they can’t be trusted to fairly and evenhandedly administer the law,” Linnabary said. “I believe David Pepper is a man of integrity and common sense. His term in the Attorney General’s office will give […]

Mean John Kasich showed again Wednesday just how imperial he is and how condescending he can be, especially to reporters who he told to stop asking him questions about why he’s too big a political coward to stand on stage with two other candidates for governor and defend what many outside his inner circle of dutiful disciples consider a terrible first-term as state CEO.

It wasn’t any surprise, therefore, when the two candidates who did show up to debate last night at the City Club in Cleveland spent time recognizing Kasich’s failure to show. Always the performance politician, Gov. Kasich […]

Rick Santorum has been running for president for at least 50 or 60 years and is back to the lodestone of such candidates: Iowa. This time he’s out there campaigning arm-in-arm with Rep. Steve King, the sociopathic Hawkeye congressman-of-faith who will forever be remembered for identifying immigrant kids because their calves bulge like cantaloupes from smuggling drugs across our border. He’s assailed Planned Parenthood for promoting “ghoulish, ghastly and gruesome” practices! His latest: He said that if he gets to Heaven he doesn’t expect to meet gays.

Once again, Santorum isn’t reluctant to cast stones against his own perceived villains […]

Ohio’s governor could be his own one-man show at the state fair next year. Based on his convoluted statements on Medicaid and Obamacare recently, first-term Tea Party chief executive John Kasich could bill himself as “Pretzel Man.”

Now that he’s bent himself backward and upside down trying to explain something that isn’t possible—Medicaid expansion existing outside Obamacare—Kasich’s lone stand on making his so-called moral choice was to support expanding Medicaid to people whose incomes, previously, were too high for them to qualify for the federal/state program for the poor makes a poor case for lifting a lot of people […]

A new Kasich mailer is hitting homes around the state this week and, just like the earlier one, it’s full of half-truths and straight-up lies.   While the first mailer tried to blame Obamacare for Ohio’s horrible job growth under Kasich, the new one lists Kasich’s favorite campaign talking points, all of which have been debunked again and again.   Let’s go through them one-by-one, shall we?

Eliminated $8 billion budget shortfall

Ohio never had an $8 billion budget deficit in any way, shape or form.  We’ve debunked this claim half a dozen times now.  as has the Plain Dealer when they recently fact-checking a […]

When a reporter politely asked Ohio’s Republican governor why he wouldn’t be appearing at tonight’s City Club debate alongside his Democratic challenger, John Kasich nearly went ballistic. With his RLS fully on display, Kasich chided the reporter for daring to raise the issue, making it clear that he was not-so-secretly sick of questions from “people like you” – aka members of the press.

“I’ve already explained all the stuff I have to explain,” said Kasich. “I’ve spent about ten and a half hours here with people like you… and letting people across the state know how I feel about things and… uh… […]

Earlier today we reported that Ohio now ranks 45th in the country for job creation (out of 50, in case you were wondering) according to Arizona State University’s W. P. Carey School of Business.

Ohio job data miners say the actual job growth rate in Ohio year-over-year for September was 0.6 percent compared to a 2 percent growth rate for the USA.

“The gap between Ohio and the USA widened in September once again, unfortunately,” said Economic Research Analyst George Zeller, who keeps tabs on the scoreboard of job growth information.

Based in Cleveland, an important region of the […]
