It would be difficult for anyone in Columbus, Ohio to have a serious discussion about our small business community without mentioning Elizabeth Lessner.

Lessner’s Tip Top restaurant helped drive the Gay Street revival downtown.  Ditto for Betty’s and Surly Girl in the Short North.  Don’t forget Dirty Frank’s on Fourth Street.  And don’t even get me started about her “room” empire: the Tiki Room, the Torpedo Room, the Jury Room and, of course, the Chintz Room.

The Columbus Dispatch released a “poll” this weekend that is so amazingly bad, so biased and so clearly aimed at promoting John Kasich’s campaign for governor, that it should be embarrassed to call itself a news organization.

Last week we revealed that Dispatch Editor Marrison was scheduled to headline a GOP fundraiser (he later cancelled).   This week the Kasich/Dispatch love affair hit a new low when the paper reported its poll results on the front page the Sunday edition, proudly declaring “Kasich ahead by 30 points.”

Having declared Ed FitzGerald’s gubernatorial campaign DOA on several occasions, the Plain Dealer still persists in digging into his distant past in the hope of handing the election to Gov. Kasich by acclimation. In less-polite circles, it’s known as piling on.
