John Kasich was interviewed on WTVN this morning by Joel Riley.  In response to a question about Medicaid expansion, Kasich followed the formula for his standard response: I’m a religious man who reads the bible and the bible tells me I should be helping the poor.

Fair enough.  We support Medicaid expansion, and if takes some old-timey Christian guilt to get conservatives to sign on, then I’m all for it.

But during this interview, Kasich added a new caveat directed at WTVN’s largely conservative audience: we want to be careful we’re not helping out the lazy ones.

“It’s a sin not to help people who need help,” said Kasich.  “But it’s also a sin to help people who need to learn how to help themselves.”

Clearly Kasich was referring to Luke 14:12-14 where Jesus said “when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind – unless they are lazy, mooching welfare queens who drive around in Cadillacs talking on their Obamaphones.”

How much of this crap do we have to endure?

  • RationalPrinciple

It is possible that Kacish was referring to Proverbs 19:24, or Proverbs 6:6: or 2 Thessalonians 3:10, or 1 Timothy 5:8, or Proverbs 10:4, or Psalms 50:7, or Proverbs 13:4, or Psalms 50:17, or 2 Timothy 3:16. But sure, go ahead and just generalize your way out of it.

  • RationalPrinciple

    Dont forget Proverbs 6:9-11.

  • I find it painful just to listen to Kasich’s voice. As he gives away our tax money to his wealthy corporate pals, our school children and communities suffer. Please, make sure you vote him out of office.

Brings to mind two quotes credited to Charles Dudley Warner: “Politics makes strange bedfellows” and “There never was a nation great until it came to the knowledge it had nowhere in the world to go for help.”

This guy is such a phony.

There is a BIG difference between quoting the Bible and actually living it. True Christians try to practice what they preach and have the humility to admit their failings.
In our society today we have this misconception that people are poor because they are lazy even though many poor toil long hours for menial wages while their employers rake in large profits at their expense.

Then there are those that bribe government officials for privileges and public monies ; and elected officials all too happy to oblige. Mr. Kasich represents the latter. All you have to do is look at what has been happening with Jobs Ohio to realize what a scam it is; no matter what your political affiliation is.

In reality the true lazy workers in our society are those exploiting others for large profits they DID NOT EARN, and those bribing and facilitating the bribing of government officials.
I wonder how many scripture quotes we can find in the Bible about this?

RationalPrinciple — the overriding theme of the New Testament is that Jesus commands helping the less fortunate. Although there are plenty of passages that are critical of laziness, the first principle is never challenged. If you are a Christian, you must help both the intentionally poor and the unintentionally poor equally. God will judge them later. Is that not correct?

The Republicans sure are “helping themselves” aren’t they? To OUR money, of course!!

  • hippie1367

Kasich is racist filth – I am surprised they let him out of Ohio

I find it interesting that you never quoted a single Gospel in which all of Christianity is to be found. I wonder why that is? Could it be that Jesus NEVER said it? Hehehe!

Christ did not obsess about stupid crap about his taxes paid which were actually wasted and especially not about keeping labor cheap and defending the exclusionary economic system of the time.
To paraphrase: “you can not worship both God and Mammon”
“That which you do to the least among you, you do to me”
The stories of the Dives and Lazarus, etc, etc, etc. He didn’t go around giving the fishes and loaves to those he had a sneaking suspicion were looking for a free ride but had no evidence to prove it, he gave it to all.

“All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness” uhh ok, got ya parasites I guess?

“A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent enriches.”
Big revelation, someone who intentionally does nothing will be poor. Whereas the diligent enriching, well you will find nowhere so many counterexamples as you will in the good ol’ US.

“A lazy person buries his hand in the dish,
and even to his mouth he will not bring it back.”
Yet they’ll move all those big screens into their house and head out for drugs every night right? Still not connecting laziness, this says nothing more than “laziness is a thing”

“He who does not work, neither shall he eat” Let’s ignore that the controversy surrounding whether Paul ever wrote this epistle, He was talking about in the service of the church, not making fatcat x more millions he will never spend. This verse was actually a favorite of socialists and rightly so: It was used to refer to the the CEO/Shareholder/Management class. The ones who spend all their time concocting business buzzwords or telling the people who actually make the business’ profits to work harder.

    “while you yourself hate discipline,
and cast my words behind you?”
Love it. Refers to those who are not steadfast in their lord or his teachings, who ignore or pervert them regularly, aka American conservatives who happen to be more enamored with their egos, their dollar (score) and their possessions, their defunct Victorian values, their racial and social fears than argue earnestly or honestly attempt understanding why capitalism fails so many..

You filthy ,stinking conservatives, John Kasich have decided after you’ve lost the last two Presidential elections and didn’t get control of the House that you suddenly care about the poor, unfortunate?
I thought that we were the communists, socialists, lazy, mooching off of welfare , eating up your hard earned tax dollars you conservatives, and Republicans complain you hate to pay and support our life-styles? You conservatives hated everyone else also, whom your friends on Fox called welfare cheats, too lazy to work, laying around getting pregnant so as to get more welfare, leeches on welfare system, gays , faggots, lesbians, too stupid and dumb to read and understand or care about the Constitution and Bill of Rights, homosexuals , gun grabbers, gun haters, homeless, retired, useless members of society and other names to numerous to mention, but your old friends on Fox Broadcasting named Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levine should recall as their very good at making up names for the society and its people they hate.
You conservatives have tried to pretend after complaining about Benghazi got tiring and boring that you suddenly loved the rest of this country that you anti-American, anti-government hating conservatives despised and you suddenly loved us and hoped we wouldn’t notice the change.
Well we did. Now you conservatives pretend to love the worthless, lazy trash of America that you rejected and were so arrogant because you hated seeing your tax money go to support our life styles before you lost the Presidential; election twice which you promised the Republican party. Like you conservatives forget that you told us lazy, no goods that if we couldn’t afford our house to sell it; to buy a cheaper one or rent: if we couldn’t afford our car , to sell it and buy a cheaper one or walk or take a bus ? While you filthy multi-millionaires propagandize America to hate our government, its politicans , culture , and benefits like teaching people to despise Social Security and Medicare, teaching the young to despise the wages of our firemen, policemen, health workers, public utility workers and others who earn decent wages as being over paid, earning too much, having benefits. Trying to destroy unions and union membership which you Fascist hate and condition the young to despise as part of your hatred you want to pass to the young generation.
You filthy conservatives should be classified by the government as the subversives and traitors to America that you all are and that goes for you John Kasich.

  • A person with any kind of common sense would know there are large numbers of people who exploit the government assistance system. People capable of working yet choose not to do so. Those people are disgusting and should not be defended by anyone because they pull attention from those truly in need. You make the assumption that a Christian’s only way of helping the poor is through taxes. Many Christians are helping through other charitable avenues that go straight to the causes they support. Do you suppose Christ wanted us to help pay for abortions, sex change operations, etc for the poor. I’m guessing he would be against it. Supporting the poor is feeding them, clothing them, giving them medical attention and most importantly the nourishment of the word of God. Are you sure the liberal leaders you think want to help the “poor” don’t just want to create more dependant people to lord over? Some of the most satisfying days are the ones filled with hard work. Republicans don’t want to starve the poor any more than the Democrats actually care about the the poor. Both parties are full of rich people who are interested in their own gains and not what’s best for the country. Taxes aren’t about helping the poor. They are about money and money is power. I pay my taxes as I’m supposed to. But don’t tell me I don’t have a right to question and oppose those who want to exploit their authority. There is no Ceaser in America. WE rule. Which means WE (you AND I) have the right to speak.
