Have you seen the new Volkswagen commercials where the selfish VW owner tells the neighbor and/or friend admiring his new car: “You can’t have the same car as me!”
Each and every time I see one of these commercials it reminds me of the ridiculous talking points of people who oppose same-sex marriage.
Both stories go something like this: If other people can have the same thing I have (e.g. marriage, car), somehow it makes my thing less important, less special or less cool.
In the case of the VW commercial, it’s actually intended to be funny.
With same-sex marriage opponents, it just comes across that way.
