We’re getting pretty close to finding out what other Republican will be on the ticket with Mitt Romney.  The chatter is increasing and we’re probably within a week or two of the announcement.  Obama picked Biden on August 23, 2008 and the Democratic National Convention was two days later.  Look for similar timing from Romney.  Somewhere around the week of the 20th makes most sense with the convention following on the 27th.  23rd even seems like a good date once again!  You don’t want to allow too much time for the opposition to pick apart your VP nomination ahead of the opportunity to get a bump at the convention – and dominate the news cycle.

So let’s see how smart PB readers are (Ds and Rs alike) and find out who our collective wisdom thinks will be the pick.  For reference, here is what Mitt says he is looking for in a VP pick: “strength of character, vision for the country, that adds something to the political discourse about the direction of the country.”

Who will be Romney's VP pick?

  • Rob Portman (44%, 55 Votes)
  • Paul Ryan (25%, 32 Votes)
  • Marco Rubio (10%, 12 Votes)
  • Tim Pawlenty (6%, 7 Votes)
  • Bobby Jindal (5%, 6 Votes)
  • Bob McDonnell (5%, 6 Votes)
  • Kelly Ayotte (4%, 5 Votes)
  • Chris Christie (2%, 3 Votes)

Total Voters: 126

The small government conservatives are hoping for Ryan but I don’t think so. Mitt has an ego the size of Utah so it’s going to be someone who isn’t going to overshadow him.

That being said, i think it’s going to be a woman with a business background that no one has heard of. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes back to someone like Kerry Healey, his Lt. Gov in Massachusetts.

But of of this list, I’ll pick Portman because he is White, Rich, and a low-profile.

Disappointed in the list. Since “corporations are people, too” I thought for sure he would pick one of them.

To bad it is not Kasich. He would be doomed for sure.

Now that we all know, I really thought it would be Pawlenty – he had the least amount of baggage. yeah, they could probably pin that whole bridge collapse in Minnepolis on him, but other than that, I don’t think he had anything else to be ashamed of. I never thought it would be Portman, nobody in Ohio even knows who he is, let alone the rest of the country, plus he has that whole connection to GWB, and the Rs REALLY

want to pretend that George Jr. never existed. Trotting out a woman was a bone for Republican women. But i would say picking Ryan will NOT appeal to independents – say goodbye to your SS and Medicare if this pair are elected.

Oh Boy, everyone!!! Mitt’s comin’ to the Ohio Valley and he’s bringin’ his pal Josh and Mr. Portman along. The whole shindig is being hosted by our #1 employer, Mr. Robert Murray. He’s bussing in “thousand of coal miners and their wives” to hear the good news. No one else, as is Mr. Murray’s habit, is invited, but he’d like us all to line the roads leading to his coal mine to cheer everyone along. These are some of the twistiest, turniest, pukiest roads around, so be ready! I hope these guys aren’t prone to carsickness – OK, not really… I’d like to see them all along the crick-bank hurlin’ their guts out. Maybe Mr. Ryan can reach in and snag himself a fish while he’s at it!
