Senate Bill 201, like it’s counterpart in the House, HB 298, is specifically designed to defund Planned Parenthood in Ohio. Kris Jordan, avid defender of women’s rights, sponsored the bill in the Senate. Kristina Roegner and Cliff Rosenberger sponsored the House version, which has been schedule for hearings on Tuesday.

Before the bill was even introduced, Jordan and Roegner were out drumming up support with their fellow legislators and with anti-abortion groups. Gongwer reports that Jordan, looking for cosponsors for the bill, sent a letter to other State Senators specifically saying the bill would “defund entities that perform abortions or maintain or operate a facility where abortions are performed. Planned Parenthood in Ohio serves as a prime example of such an entity.” A similar letter was sent by by Representative Kristina Roegner to members of the House. The full text of the letter is included below.

And yet, during his testimony in the Senate for the bill, Jordan responded to a question about the bill saying it “was not designed to de-fund any particular organization” even though that is EXACTLY what the bill was designed to do according to his own cosponsor letter.

So Jordan lied in his testimony. No surprise there. Despite my earlier sarcastic statements, everyone knows Kris Jordan is no friend of women. And he’s no big fan of the truth, either.

After being called to his house in response to a frantic and distressful 911 call in which Jordan’s wife fears for her life and reveals Kris was pushing her around and threatening her with a gun, Jordan told police nothing had really happened and his wife just “got a little upset. Girls do that.”

The dash cam video from the Jordan Domestic Violence incident shows this was not an isolated case, suggesting years of “violent and physical” behavior on the part of Jordan against his wife.

Still, Jordan carries on like nothing happened, even sending out this cutesy little Christmas card. You can’t hide the truth behind a powder blue sweater, a cute little puppy and a recipe for Rolo Pretzel Turtles, Kris.

Kris Jordan voted against Domestic Violence legislation. Kris Jordan was the ONLY legislator in Ohio to vote against The Jessica Logan Act, HB 155, a bill designed to protect kids from bullying and named after a young girl who took her own life in response to cyber bullying. And Kris Jordan is now sponsoring a bill with the sole purpose of defunding one of the largest providers of health care for low- to moderate-income women in Ohio.

It’s important to note that less than 3% of the funding Planned Parenthood receives goes to abortion services. And NONE of the money it receives from the state can legally be used for abortion services.

And while the numbers Roegner and Jordan use in their cosponsor letters attacking Planned Parenthood may be accurate, they fail to mention all of the unwanted pregnancies Planned Parenthood prevented with their contraception services or all the lives that have been saved and improved by Planned Parenthood through the other women’s health services that make up 97% of their spending.

Defunding Planned Parenthood in Ohio would do nothing to reduce the number of abortions in our state. It may, in fact, have the opposite effect. Planned parenthood provided 3.7 MILLION clients with contraception services last year. And when the funding is taken away, it is these services that will be impacted, not the abortion services.

Re:         Co-Sponsor Request Defund Entities that Perform Abortions

Representative Rosenberger and I will soon be introducing legislation which will defund entities that perform abortions or maintain or operate a facility where abortions are performed.    Planned Parenthood in Ohio serves as a prime example of such an entity.  Planned Parenthood is the nation¹s largest abortion provider, performing, and profiting from, one out of every four abortions in the United States.

In 2009 abortion was a ³service² that Planned Parenthood provided to 97.6% of their patients who reported themselves pregnant. In the US, it performed 332,278 abortions in 2009 alone.  That is 910 abortions every day.  While the number of abortions performed by Planned Parenthood has doubled since 1999 (coincidentally the amount of taxpayer funding received by Planned Parenthood has also doubled in that same time period), the other pregnancy-related services provided by Planned Parenthood has dropped significantly.  For example, the number of Planned Parenthood¹s clients receiving prenatal care has dropped 63% from 18,878 in 1999 to 7,021 today.

Abortions kill innocent babies and abortion providers should not be subsidized by any government program.

This bill has the full support of both Ohio Right to Life and Faith2Action.
