The Dispatch is reporting that Columbus City Schools and the Columbus Education Association have come to an agreement that will save the school district $8 Million dollars in salary next year. They have also projected a total cut of $22 million from next school year’s budget.

The salary savings was accomplished with existing collective bargaining rights and the current step-based pay system in place, and without Kasich’s merit-pay changes to teacher salary.

pay scales, which determine how much money a teacher makes based on how long he or she has worked for the district, will not increase for the next two school years. However, teachers will continue to move up the scale — although more slowly, taking two years to move up to a higher pay instead of one. Moving up a step generally provides around a 4 percent raise for the first 14 years on the job.

Remind me again why we need Kasich’s anti-teacher, anti-union agenda?

It seems as though an awful lot of districts are rushing to renew their contracts, whether or not it’s quite time to do so. And they would do this if they wanted to get rid of unions because why now?

As a tax-paying, public-sector working Ohio voter, I thank myself daily for not voting for King John and go to sleep nightly wishing that more people could do the same.

I think its amazing they are all using the so called fact “sb5 gives the local city, townships, and municipalities” more controll over their budgets—- they have had this right all the time—- no one union that I know of has “made” any one of these local governments give them raises and etc. — they have always had the power to say NO.
If you read the papers everyday — some little place is making deals with the firefighters or police or teachers — and amazing to me most are getting some little raise or lump sum payment or are freezing their wages .
Just more proof SB5 is about union busting — not budget crisis.
I think a lot of unions would have taken concessions –IF they had been asked — they werent. What in the world does he think bargaining means?
and I still cant believe hes been in only 100 days seems 100 years!
and wasnt he a real looker in the outfit he had on today…. in case no one has told him –clothes do not make the man …..
