Former Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Corrections Director Reggie Wilkinson, who served in the Voinovich and Taft Administrations before retiring in 2006, was one of them. Wilkinson is currently the President and CEO of the Ohio College Access Network. We are told he was Kasich’s first choice to be the Director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, his old job, but he turned the offer down.

Rep. W. Carlton Weddington today said he filed a public records request asking for copies of identification badges for the top 15 paid positions in the governor’s office. He said he also is making the same request of the attorney general, secretary of state, treasurer, auditor and Supreme Court.

Kasich decided to take the “Interim” tag off of Ohio Department Jobs and Family Services’ Director Michael Colbert, making him a full-fledged Director, and thus, Kasich’s first African-American Cabinet appointment.
Governor Kasich, of course, insisted that this in no way was a sign of him bowing to political pressure. According to the Columbus Dispatch, the Governor said:
“Michael earned his job,” Kasich said. “Michael didn’t get this job because of his race. I’m excited that he happens to be an African-American, but he didn’t get it because of that. He got it because of his experience.”

Yesterday our new Governor provided some words of wisdom about the weather to winter-weary Ohioans. As usual, Marc Kovac captures it all.
Here’s the advice Kasich provided:
If you don’t have to drive, don’t.
Secondly, if you have to go out because you don’t have enough food – go out, stock up. Do not be eating things that have been sitting in the refrigerator for two weeks. We don’t want anybody getting sick.
Thirdly, if you do have to drive somewhere, make sure you have the kind of clothes in the car that you need.
