MSNBC is reporting that today John McCain suggested Congress shouldn’t repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) despite a recent Pentagon study favoring it because, well, we’re at war, damnit!
McCain seized on this finding to argue that forcing such a substantial personnel policy change in a time of war would be wrong for the military and the country.
McCain’s own Navy began experimenting with racially desegregated ship crews during World War II. The Army didn’t finally begin enacting Truman’s executive order desegregating the military until three years after he made it. They did it during the Korean War.
Next excuse, Senator McCain?
