A few months back State Senator Shannon Jones caught some flack for sending a dozen Twitter updates from the House floor during Governor Strickland’s State of the State speech.

Not only was she breaking House rules which prohibit the use of electronic devices on the floor, but she generally came off looking like a rude, disrespectful, impolite and spoiled child whining and carrying on when she should have been at least pretending to listen the Governor.

Unfortunately Ms. Jones doesn’t seem to have learned anything since then about the proper place and time to be tweeting. She posted this one today while barreling down I71 at 70+ miles per hour in her minivan, the perfect time to be catching up on your email and reading Twitter…

Obsessive behavior that you continue even when it impacts your work or compromises the safety or yourself and others?

That sounds like an addiction to me.

I wonder how she'll vote on the ban on texting while driving bill currently in the OGA?

She'll vote for it, then break it – just like the speed limit law she admits to breaking. IOKIYAR, again.

Unless legislators have a special exemption, the maximum legal speed limit in Ohio is 65 mph. I do a class for students learning to become professional truck drivers. As of Jan. 28, 2010 the federal department of transportation prohibited drivers of interstate busses and trucks weighing over 10,000 pounds from sending text messages on handheld devices. Research by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration shows that drivers who send and receive text messages take their eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds out of every 6 seconds while texting. While that doesn't sound like a big deal, at 55 mph the driver has traveled the length of a football field, including the end zones, without looking at the road. Okay, so the mini-van is less than 10,000 pounds, most police officers give you 10 mph over the posted speed limit, and there probably wasn't much traffic on I-71 at the time. Sounds to me like she needs to have her drivers license permanently revoked and be put on the train.
