OK, so it’s clear my football season is winding down in a very disappointing way. My Steelers have had yet another disappointing season after a Super Bowl win. Somebody call me the wahmbulance! I’m going to have to pull out the silver polish and lean on the past again by polishing up the 6 Lombardi trophies. Still a (very) outside chance we make the playoffs, but I don’t see it.

So…on to college hoops! Just in time is this rendition of the Kentucky Wildcats. They are currently 8-0, ranked #4, and coming off a win against last […]

Copenhagen doomed from the start?

On December 8, 2009 By

Is the Copenhagen Climate summit dead on day 2? Developing nations are furious over what is being dubbed the “Danish text”, a draft agreement that apparently gives rich nations every benefit while putting the UN’s role in the background. This has thrown the talks into disarray.

We seemed to be going into these negotiations from a position of authority and renewed worldwide leadership on the issue after the EPA ruled greenhouse gases a danger to public health and paved the way for President Obama to act as the Supreme Court has ruled he can.

If rich nations […]

Matt Lauer and Al Roker are in Afghanistan this week. And they both seem to be wearing – gasp! – a scarf.

I imagine Michelle Malkin and the rest of the anti-Muslim wackos (e.g. Pam Geller) will be calling for a boycott of the Today Show by the end of the week.

After all they are both wearing keffiyehs so they both, obviously, want to destroy America.

I’m having one hell of a rotten month, so this game we’ve been playing with the Brunner campaign is supremely ill-timed.? But I’m gonna take something positive from it.? WARNING – inside blog drama below.

It was almost exactly four years ago that I and other bloggers reported – that’s right, reported – on another US Senate candidate’s public words, after which said US Senate candidate sent a brigade of anonymous commenting goons out to destroy the messengers, plural.? On that occasion, the reporting wasn’t even about a policy position.? It was about total idiocy.? There was no engagement from […]

Vindication for ACORN?

On December 8, 2009 By

After much uproar over James O’Keefe’s “clever” undercover videos about the tiny* community organization ACORN, the results of an independent investigation are in, and ACORN has been cleared of institutional wrongdoing.

While some of the advice and counsel given by ACORN employees and volunteers was clearly inappropriate and unprofessional, we did not find a pattern of intentional, illegal conduct by ACORN staff; in fact, there is no evidence that action, illegal or otherwise, was taken by any ACORN employee on behalf of the videographers.

It gets better:

The videos that have been released appear to have been edited, in […]

As with all tragedy, there is opportunity.? The destruction by fire of one of Cleveland’s most treasured African American institutions is yielding a lot of declarations of support.? But in a city that has been careening downhill for decades, there is precious little money to bring the Lancer back to life.

Hmmm….now who in town has a lot of money?? I wonder…….

If I were Lebron James or Shaquille O’Neal, I’d be considering an investment in not only the history of Cleveland’s African American community, but in their own legacy, via the rebirth of The Lancer.? Who wouldn’t applaud that?

Kenneth Biros is to be put to death today using a new single injection method. The new method was developed after the botched execution of Romell Broom in September.

I post this not to get in to any big debate about the death penalty. I’m against it. I understand this to be a minority position and accept that. It makes me sad that we as a society take this position, but it is what it is.

I wanted to highlight this to point out the sheer hypocrisy among those who would comment on stories like Broom […]

PD’s been on top of this story, good for them.

A passerby reported the building ablaze at 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Fire officials said Monday they are still seeking the cause but that, so far, nothing appears suspicious.

Dixon is not so sure. His alarm company notified him of something amiss before dawn and he drove to the restaurant with his wife and son.

“When I turned the corner, I knew it was gone,” he said. “I watched it burn.”

He said he noticed that glass was shattered on a side door. Maybe the force of the fire blew it […]

Sarah Palin loves… porn?

Well, not exactly. But this cheap, crass, unfair, and completely hilarious edit of her appearance on Oprah says otherwise!

We’ve just been notified, 2.5 hours ahead of time, that Jennifer Brunner needs to reschedule the interview her campaign requested to clarify her position on Afghanistan, scheduled themselves, and announced unilaterally through their blogger Jeff Coryell on Saturday around midnight.

What the hell is going on over there?

YouTube Tuesday – Nikon Girl

On December 8, 2009 By

I’m a bit of an amateur photographer (not a very good one, but I enjoy it), and I stumbled across this gem on the intertubez.

I’m a “Nikon” kind of guy myself, but should I be alarmed that (despite laughing heartily at the entire experience) I was focused so much on how it was lit? I need to find some time to head out to the workshop and finish my DIY ringlight…
