The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that GOP Congressional primary opponent John Adams has closed his campaign account and reopened a new one after, Adams says, “several counterfeit checks valued at thousands of dollars were written on checks bearing his campaign logo.”
“The perpetrators of this crime were obviously skilled in banking and check systems, possibly motivated politically to disrupt my campaign and to drain all of my campaign funds,” he said in an e-mail message.
Stivers, Adams’ main rival and presumptive frontrunner for the GOP nomination, has been (is?) a lobbyist and executive for a major bank. Therefore, it’s not hard to figure out exactly what Adams is suggesting. The question is why Adams thinks Stivers would feel so threatened by him, given that Adams didn’t even FILE an FEC report, strongly suggesting that his campaign has no money.
