I’d never heard of The Columbus Coalition of Reason (ColumbusCoR) until today when I saw this great billboard they put up downtown…

According to their website, ColumbusCoR is “a group of like-minded member organizations from throughout Central Ohio that all believe that science and reason lead to more reliable knowledge than dogma and faith.”

Science and reason over dogma and faith?

Damn! Those certainly are some words to live by. I think I’ll be joining ColumbusCoR first thing tomorrow morning.

I have been a part of atheist/agnostic/humanism groups no mater which part of the country I have lived. In Oregon, during the mid-1990s, I was the Northwest region director for the Center of Rational Thought (5,000 members). I live in the Cleveland area now and we have the Cleveland Freethinkers group with approx. 300 members. I have been an out of the closet athiest for over 20 years now (it once cost me a job 15-years ago when my then Christian-fundlementalist co-workers hatched a character assasignation campaign against me) and it is exciting to see more and more rational people speaking out, coming out, organizing and no longer afraid to publically acknowledge that they are grounded in the roots of of science, analytical inquiry and measurable discovery. Its very important that we counter the imaginary world dominated by our imaginary friends. We can no longer ignore that fact the billions of our neighbors believe in martyrdom or in the literal truth of the Book of Revelation, or in any of the other fantastical notions and untestable propositions that have lurked in the human condition throughout the ages.

Don't beleive in GOD?? It's okay, he still loves you anyway.

Which “GOD” are you refering to that still loves me? With so many ancient books to choose from, and with each making an exclusive claim to infallibility which thereby induce people to organize themselves into factions of intolerance according to which of the these incompatible claims they choose to accept – I just don't know which pie in the sky to worship. So please 'enlighten' me as to which to choose and tell me who this guy is that supposedly loves me. Is it Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Peter Pan, Jesus, Muhammad, Budda, the Butcher, the Baker, the Candlestick Maker?
