Last month Ken Blackwell attacked RNC Chairman Michael Steele for basically not being conservative enough to lead the Republican Party.
?Chairman Steele, as the leader of America?s Pro-Life conservative party, needs to re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform. He then needs to get to work ? or get out of the way.?
This isn’t new behavior for Blackwell. He never misses a chance to remind moderate Republicans like Steele that the GOP is a party of crazy christofascists and if you aren’t on board with hating gays and loving Jesus then you don’t belong.
Steele was elected RNC chairman because he promised to bring all sides together for the good of the party. Ken Blackwell, on the other hand, has continued to push his with-us-or-against-us message that has driven moderates away from the party and caused the GOP to lose big in the last few election cycles.
I always thought Blackwell was just a nutty social conservative who would rather see his party implode than see it give even a little on the issues he thinks are important.
It turns out I was wrong.
It turns out he’s a nutty social conservative who doesn’t understand that other people in his party aren’t also nutty social conservatives.
As evidence supporting this claim I submit to you the latest Townhall article by Mr. Blackwell titled “Conservatives’ False Division” in which he tries to convince his Republican readers that they should put aside their little differences on social issues and focus on a common enemy: the liberals.
It amazes me how tone deaf Kenny is when it comes to recognizing the sound of his party ripping itself apart.
It is obvious to everyone that it isn’t the lack of a common enemy that is causing this rift. It’s the lack of a common sense approach to living in the modern world.
Can’t we all just hate the liberals and forget that we don’t agree on anything else?
Can’t we all just agree to avoid talking about the real issues and attack the big-government liberals who want to take away your guns and raise your taxes and spend the money on health care for lazy, good-for-nothing, mooching old people?
That solution actually worked for awhile back in the 90’s. Back when small-government conservatives and big-jesus conservatives got together to fight the Godless liberals.
But those days are SO gone. It’s over. Everyone knows it.
Everyone realizes that you can’t have a party platform based on liberty and freedom from government intervention while certain fringe members of that party want the government to monitor and regulate the sexual behavior and reproductive activities of its citizens.
Every realizes this except Ken Blackwell.
Tone deaf indeed. Bring on the implosion.
