Senator Voinovich Retiring Early?
When Jon Husted proposes legislation, his motives are usually pretty transparent.
For example, when it became clear the Republicans would not have control over the apportionment board in 2010, Husted started planning legislation to scrap the Apportionment Board.
So today when I heard Husted was planning to propose legislation that would require a special election for an empty US Senate seat instead of having the Governor appoint a new Senator (which is the current method) my first thought was: What is Jon REALLY trying to accomplish here?
The only logical conclusion I can come up with: George Voinovich plans to retire early and the Republicans do not want Strickland to be able to appoint a Democrat to replace him.
