I haven’t seen Tropic Thunder yet- but I’ve heard it’s pretty damn funny. I have this feeling I won’t be getting to see it in the theater though- what with the babies and all. But it’s already added to our Netflix queue.
Anyway- I didn’t really want to talk about the movie. Instead I wanted to discuss the recent controversy about it. Specifically, the use of the word retard.
I never considered myself hyperliberal or an activist or anything like that- still, I do understand why someone might be offended by this word and I also understand why someone might […]Full Story... →
Juan Cole tells us Bush has a great deal to do with Russia even thinking it could pull this off without retribution:
The run-up to the current chaos in the Caucasus should look quite familiar: Russia acted unilaterally rather than going through the U.N. Security Council. It used massive force against a small, weak adversary. It called for regime change in a country that had defied Moscow. It championed a separatist movement as a way of asserting dominance in a region it coveted.
Indeed, despite George W. Bush and Dick Cheney’s howls of outrage at Russian aggression in […]Full Story... →
(Newser) – Author Jerome Corsi, he of the Kerry Swift Boat book and the new attack tome on Barack Obama, has a long history of, um, provocative theories. For instance: The world’s oil supplies are nearly infinite because oil constantly replenishes itself. Politico takes a look at some of his more outlandish claims over the years and how they’ve undermined his credibility on both the left and right. Among them:
* Muslims worship Satan.
* President Bush secretly plotted to merge the US with Canada and Mexico.
* John Kerry is a communist.
Ruh Roh. Is someone yanking on the curtain of the great and powerful Oz?
Today, a study by the Center for Responsive Politics reported that members of the military are giving more donations to Senator Obama than Senator McCain, and when you just examine those troops who are deployed, Obama attracts more donations by a 6 to 1 factor.
I’ve argued forever that the wingnut claim that they support troops more and that they are the party of the military was pure fiction. It looks like the troops have spoken.
They’re probably tired of the long war […]Full Story... →
Ahum. That didn’t take long. I asked for it and it appears Team Obama is gonna give it to me (and many others all thinking and screaming the same thing: FIGHT!). This is really great to see and it’s only a warning shot straight across the bows of those who think it will work this time:
It’s called “Unfit for Publication,” but the subtitle could be: “We Are Not John Kerry’s Campaign.”
In an move that is one part genuine pushback and one part message-sending, Obama’s campaign has released a 41-page pdf file designed to rebut accusations […]Full Story... →
McCain’s comments Wednesday to the Weekly Standard’s Stephen Hayes that former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge’s pro-abortion rights views wouldn’t necessarily rule him out quickly found their way into the in-boxes of Christian conservatives. For those who have been anxiously awaiting McCain’s pick as a signal of his ideological intentions, there was deep concern that their worst fears about the Arizona senator may be realized.
“It absolutely floored me,” said Phil Burress, head of the Ohio-based Citizens for Community Values. “It would doom him in Ohio.”
Burress emailed about a dozen “pro-family leaders” he knows outside Ohio and […]Full Story... →
ROFL. Felt like a good time to recycle these. Just because. Plus I love me some juxtaposts!

YouTube member CartwrightDale says of his ad concept:
Although I enjoyed Barack Obama’s recent web ad “Embrace” (the one with lots of hugging between Bush and McCain), I still think the campaign needs to be a little harsher. The idea of a continuation of Bush policies into a third term should be scary, not playful. Furthermore, I think it’s important to emphasize that McCain has been “doubling down” on Bush’s policies at the same time the rest of the nation (and world) has been abandoning them.
I created this ad to illustrate the kind of concept I’d like to […]Full Story... →
