It looks like Jonathon Sharkey (aka Jonathon THE IMPALER) is still running for president.

As you may remember, Sharkey is running as a member of the Vampire, Witches & Pagan Party of New Jersey.

His campaign promise: “AS PRESIDENT, TERRORISTS AND CRIMINALS WILL FEAR ME! ‘CAUSE I WILL IMPALE THEM!!!!! THE AMERICAN VAMPYRE FROM JERSEY, IS OUT FOR BLOOD! THE BLOOD OF OUR ENEMIES!!!”

And now, available only from cafepress.com, you too have show your support for Sharkey by buying your baby a Jonathon Sharkey Onesie for your little baby…

According to the US Commerce Department the US “economy grew at a 4.9 percent pace in the third quarter, the fastest in four years.”

Matt at WMD was quick to jump on it crediting Bush and his tax cuts for the one piece of positive economic news to come out in a long time.

Problem is: if you read the whole article you’ll get a totally different picture.

The third quarter surge in the economy happened “before the full impact of the worsening housing recession and turmoil in credit markets took hold.”

According to economists, the odd of […]

A study of the Canadian health care system…

In the studies of adult populations, with adjustment for potential confounders, private for-profit hospitals were associated with an increased risk of death (relative risk [RR] 1.020, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.003?1.038; p = 0.02). The one perinatal study with adjustment for potential confounders also showed an increased risk of death in private for-profit hospitals (RR 1.095, 95% CI 1.050?1.141; p < 0.0001). Interpretation: Our meta-analysis suggests that private for-profit ownership of hospitals, in comparison with private not-for-profit ownership, results in a higher risk of death for patients.

What does this show? […]

An Auburn football player was bitten by a police dog last weekend during a game. The announcers think the officer might have been an Alabama fan, but my suspicion is that the dog mistook the defensive back for Michael Vick.

Down Tennessee way

Police have lost red-light cameras to traffic accidents but never to gun play. “This is the first one that’s been shot,” Capt. Gordon Catlett said of the wounded camera at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Interstate 640 ? one of 15 camera-equipped intersections in the city.

Clifford E. Clark, 47, was charged with felony vandalism and reckless endangerment for allegedly firing at least three rounds from a .30-06 hunting rifle at the camera, knocking it out of action.

Anger management issues, dude? At any rate, not the most appropriate use of a firearm. Red light […]

The plan by the Ohio Civil Rights Commission (OCRC) that gives women 12 weeks of unpaid maternity leave IS a good idea.

I think we can all agree on that.

But Barbara Sykes, chair of the OCRC, is out of line by refusing the Governor’s request “to delay the hearing to make sure small businesses have the chance to voice their concerns about the proposal.”

I know Jerid is siding with his gal Sykes on this- and I understand his reasons. It does seem like a good proposal.

But that’s really not the point.

When Strickland appointed Barbara Sykes […]

In a rare and fictional midnight ceremony, Jeff Coryell was anointed with the coveted green Hickmania™ jacket for protecting the integrity of the Ohio blogosphere by banning disruptive commenter and wannabe blogger David B. Hickman Jr.

Russell Hughlock, one of the original spurned by said David Hickman was on hand to award the latest “H” emblazoned green jacket to Coryell. Hughlock and Coryell were both unavailable for comment at blogtime.

Past jacket winners

Tim Russo – Democracy Guy and BuckeyePolitics (aka pervertMonsterBoy) Eric Vessels – Plunderbund (aka PlunderDUMB, aka High Plains Drifter, aka Buddha belly boy, aka…) Scott Piepho […]

If you’ve visited OhioDailyBlog lately (and you should daily – it’s not called that for nothing you know!), you will have noticed an insane amount of Hickmania™ in the comments there. Apparently it was too much to bear and was dragging down another great Ohio political blog and it looks like Dave Hickman – or David B. Hickman Jr. has been banned and all of his past voluminous disjointed comments have been pulled from the site.

Kudos to the staff of ODB for finally figuring out the toxic nature and unscrupulous methods of one David B. Hickman […]

So Republican Senator Trent Lott announced that he intends to resign his seat before the end of the year.

And rumors are flying as to his reasons.

Big Head DC claims it’s because he has been outed by a gay prostitute named Benjamin Nicholas. Benjamin Nicholas has denied the rumor.

Jerid over at BSB is spreading a similiar rumor– but this one involves an “investigation” by Larry Flint.

Personally, I believe thinkprogress.org is much closer to the truth when they suggest that Lott, a longtime opponent of lobbying reform, is quitting the senate because of a […]
