Why the hell is Pete Stark apologizing for his statements about the war and president Bush?

The way I see it, Pete had every right to be pissed off at the Republicans- especially our child-hating, war-mongering president.

This is what Rep Stark (D-CA) said during debate on the S-CHIP bill:

Where are you going to get that money? Are you going to tell us lies like you’re telling us today? Is that how you’re going to fund the war? You don’t have money to fund the war or children. But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president’s amusement.

Was he wrong? I don’t think so.

Regardless- I STILL don’t understand why he apologized.

He’s said WAY worse things in the past- and never apologized for them…

For example:

During one 2003 legislative mark-up session on pension funds Stark hurled epithets such as “fruitcake” and “c–ks—-r” at Republican colleagues. In response to a request by fellow Ways and Means Committee member Scott McInnis (R.-Colorado) to stop such disruptive behavior, Stark said: “You think you are big enough to make me, you little wimp? Come on. Come over here and make me. I dare you?.you little fruitcake. You little fruitcake. I said you are a fruitcake!”

Now THAT was insulting.
