Ruh Roh:

The Republican National Committee, hit by a grass-roots donors’ rebellion over President Bush’s immigration policy, has fired all 65 of its telephone solicitors, Ralph Z. Hallow will report Friday in The Washington Times.

Faced with an estimated 40 percent fall-off in small-donor contributions and aging phone-bank equipment that the RNC said would cost too much to update, Anne Hathaway, the committee’s chief of staff, summoned the solicitations staff last week and told them they were out of work

This is obviously horrible news for the economy, great news for most Republican households at dinner time, and especially great news for the country at large. Whatever the reason less money is flowing into the Republican coffers, it’s a good thing. Their prez candidates are already getting clobbered in fundraising, which clearly tells us where the energy and interest is.

Less people are identifiying with the party of Lincoln because it got sold out to Christofascists and Neocons. It’s been clear for some time now and the blowback is gonna be big. Republican candidates look like what someone recently called cardboard cutouts of Larry, Curly and Moe (ht Stubborn Lib).

Some in the right-leaning blogosphere think Republican loses were due to candidates not being conservative enough in the last election. I think nothing could be further from the truth, but I hope they convince their candidates of this. It will ensure even greater victories in ’08 and a return to some sense of normalcy.

  • The Republican party as it is currently constituted certainly isn’t the “party of Lincoln”.

  • #1: I couldn’t agree more.

  • I would gladly welcome a return to Eisenhower Republicanism for the GOP. Ohio’s right-wing blogosphere would go apoplectic, tho.
