I love me some Chris Baker. Dude is what got me blogging, so there’s a soft spot built in. He has a post up about Republican Auto-Erotic Cannibalism. Here is how to read it:

First: Let “Auto-Erotic Cannibalism” stew for a bit. I promise it’ll be like chilli – way better the longer you let it sit. Yes, he needs to add another “n”, but don’t be a spelling homer. You can’t claim misspelling unless there are at least two words per sentence misspelled in at least every other paragraph. It’s a rule. Lay off him.

Second: Now. Read the first paragraph real quick. He’s just talking about how he hasn’t posted in a while. It’s akin to “how ya been doin'” in a conversation. Idle chit chat.

Third: OK. dig in. You are gonna love the second paragraph:

You can tell that we are witnessing the blessed final collapse of the Reagan revolution by how voraciously Republicans are eating themselves alive. What in the 80s was cynical, masterful hypocrisy has two decades later become the moronic rantings of a horribly inbred lineage. Bereft of ideas, goals, or moral compass, those of us who have suffered through decades of being right now get to enjoy as the devil collects his interest on their collective Faustian bargain

Now, the temptation here is to stop and read this paragraph over and over. Don’t do it. I promise there’s more goodness and we’ll come back to this one! You are also going to have to look up “Faustian bargain” most likely. Think “deal with the devil”. Same same, only more creative and cerebral. Save this one for later, but do move on.

Fourth: Continue and become enlightened about the second district as per normal with Baker and OH02. Schmidt is on the outs and Brinkman most likely will take her on in what will be brutal and fun to watch. Chris puts it together well.

Fifth: Come back to the second paragraph and read it over and over. Print it out and put it in your wallet. You are gonna need a pick me up some day and this will do the trick. “What in the 80s was cynical, masterful hypocrisy has two decades later become the moronic rantings of a horribly inbred lineage.” Makes me smile every single time.

  • I believe you did, but thanks for circling around. Inspiration is a wonderful thing. Your post inspired a creative hat tip. We can do worse than inspiring one another to keep up the good fight and find within ourselves both the ability and impetus to say what it is that is really on our minds.

    Good shit.
