Unintended Blogaquences

On April 24, 2007 By

Hurley over at WMD (my eyes! my eyes!) attempts to make a point about Iraq but falls pretty short – of course. He compares recent outbreaks of crime in Philly with Iraq, sarcastically calling the city a “quagmire” and urging us to “get out of there”. I won’t bother to argue that Philadelphia has struggled with crime for years and that we didn’t cause such instability by overthrowing it’s mayor and creating a power vacuum that led to violence among different Philly neighborhoods, or that Philadelphia is located in Pennsylvania – part of the United States. Don’t need to […]

Hmmm. Let’s piece this all together now shall we? Boehner is on a media blitz with his shiny new buzzquote “mandatory surrender date for retreat”. He’s sending out emails to wingnuts. He’s getting on the radio with wingnuts. Hell, he is rumored to be traveling around in a Snap-On truck spreading wingnut cheer!

So enquiring minds might ask: Why?

Well, let’s see. Timing is everything. I just got a reminder from the ODP that yesterday marked a milestone.

On January 23, 2007, in an interview with CNN Congressional Correspondent Andrea Koppel, Republican Minority Leader John Boehner […]

Typical of these partisan hypocrite hacks. The uproar over Pelosi’s trip to Syria was well documented – and Republicans making the trip was conveniently ignored by most of the press, as noted here. Think Progress notes that David Hobson (A Republican from Ohio like Boehner) never got a call from Boehner criticizing his trip with Pelosi to Syria. They were also never told not to go by the State Department.

?Before we left, we met with the State Department people and nobody told us not to go,? Hobson said, adding that none of his Republican colleagues broached […]

Forget Rod Parsley’s “Blame Sin” excuse. Bill Murchison has a much simpler and much more elegant theory on what cause the Virginia Tech tragedy: It’s the Devil, Stupid.

In his latest townhall.com article, Murchison calls ‘the rampage of Seung-Hui Cho’ a ‘modern horror’ and blames it on ‘the devil and the powers of darkness.” (Other modern horrors include: al-Qaeda, the Rwandan massacres, Idi Amin and the holocaust of the Jews.)

Unfortunately, he doesn’t offer his readers a lot of hope. ‘Secularized moderns’, he says, ‘are ill-equipped to deal with the problem of evil.’ Mainly because we don’t believe in […]

Gun control disconnect

On April 24, 2007 By

Matty over a RABid continues to intentionally misrepresent gun control efforts in what can really only be termed celebrating a 25 year old man using a concealed weapon to defend himself – and kill – a 15 year old would-be criminal.

The PD’s blog post said, “Opponents said [Well’s gun] took Buford’s [life] – that the 15-year-old might be alive if a citizen had not been armed.” And that statement is true- But if Toby Hoover and other anti-2nd Amendment types had their way, Damon Wells might be dead.

No – if Toby Hoover had his way, Buford wouldn’t […]
