Wow. Anyone else find this incredibly dualistic and indicative of the horrible state of foreign policy our current administration – led by PNAC neocons – has given us? Expedite bombs to one side, humanitarian aid to the other. What the hell is wrong with us?
I guess the precision guided bombs are necessary though:
UN personnel carry the body of a colleague killed in an Israeli air strike The UN deaths have provoked an international outcry
The UN post UN peacekeepers in south Lebanon contacted Israeli troops 10 times before an Israeli bomb killed four of them, an initial UN report says.
Our standing in the world community just continues to rise, rise, rise!
Let’s check in in Iraq real quick to see how they are doing. Hell, Iraq? [opens door]
Shit! [bomb blast]
Not so good it seems. Oh, look, Bush is sending in more troops. That’s nice:
Bush to Add Troops in Baghdad, Citing ‘Terrible’ Sectarian Strife
(WaPo) President Bush said yesterday that he will send more U.S. forces and equipment to Baghdad as part of a fresh strategy to put down rising sectarian violence, abandoning a six-week-old operation that failed to pacify the strife-torn Iraqi capital and opening what aides called an unexpected new phase of the war.
“Fresh strategy”. Gotta love that one. What? The other ones didn’t work? Tsk. I keep forgetting this is one of those “long wars”. Quite different from what we were told going in, right? Remember the liberator myth? Flowers and candy thrown at our feet? Mission Accomplished? Hell, even wingnuts are jumping off this bandwagon (follow-up to that here – it’s Steele from Maryland).
The scarlet letter R. I like that.
