You hear alot about conceptual “cutting and running”. Nevermind the fact that you can’t cut and run from an occupation (it is inevitable that you will by definition), you will hear Rs and wingnut bloggers say it until they are literally blue in the face. The real cut and run routine has been going on for some time…with a bit of added bait and switch. Editor over at OH02 does the juxtapose thing rather nicely, by showing us the following two headlines:

July 4th New York Times > C.I.A. Closes Unit Focused on Capture of bin Laden

July 5th New York Daily News > Bin Laden clout on rise? Grip over Al Qaeda might be tightening, experts say

Anyone remember “Dead or Alive”? Where is the cowboy now? Oh, that’s right. He’s encircled by wagons fightin’ anuther buncha Injuns.

The realignment reflects a view that Al Qaeda is no longer as hierarchical as it once was, intelligence officials said, and a growing concern about Qaeda-inspired groups that have begun carrying out attacks independent of Mr. bin Laden and his top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

So shut it down, then learn:

The flurry of messages from Osama Bin Laden and his deputy this year suggests the pair is regaining control over Al Qaeda operations for the first time since the U.S. toppled the Taliban

You know, that imcompetence theme sure does resonate. I mean, damn. So first we have the bait and switch (Global War on Terruh turned into Iraq war), now we have the cut and run from the only ones truly responsible for the attacks of 911. See how this works? It’s a Republican ploy used over and over again. Privately you DO IT, publicly you accuse Dems of it. It would be funny if it weren’t so serious. Damned cut and run Republicans.

    Anyone remember ?Dead or Alive??

Yep, I have a Javascript clock in the footer of my site counting down from the date that remark was made. Since the day President Bush said Osama bin Laden was wanted dead or alive, 1755 days have passed.

Nice sense of urgency there, Chimpy.
