Just got an email from the Brown campaign. I guess this is what will have to pass for reaching out (full email after the break):

I’m proud to serve as your candidate for the U.S. Senate against Republican Mike DeWine. We’ve been though many campaigns over the years, but this is our greatest challenge and greatest opportunity to effect change in Ohio. I’m confident that with your help we will win this race and bring hope back to working families.

I, for one, am not proud of how you got there – but congratulations!

This is the only thing that even comes close to reaching out:

This is one election where no one should stand on the sidelines.

That’s it? Wow. Well color me underwhelmed. This campaign has lost the Ohio netroots and will continue to with this kind of “get the hell on board” message. Earth to Sherrod: We want to back you man, but you have made it so painfully hard to – and it doesn’t appear you are willing to work any harder at it. Win a primary and then we’d be all in it together…as for right now…I’m still hangin’ out on the sidelines checkin’ it all out. Worst part about it is that I genuinely like your policies and your record of fighting for us – really I do. But what I need from you is a big fat “hey sorry, forgive me and let’s get DeWine”…how ’bout one of those buddy?

Dear eric@plunderbund.com,

I’m proud to serve as your candidate for the U.S. Senate against Republican Mike DeWine. We’ve been though many campaigns over the years, but this is our greatest challenge and greatest opportunity to effect change in Ohio. I’m confident that with your help we will win this race and bring hope back to working families.

We are touring the state speaking out on issues that Ohioans care about most: trade, health care, education, the war in Iraq and the environment.

You already took the first step for us to win in November by signing up on our website. I need you to stay involved and get active in your community. The best place to get updates on the campaign and to learn what is happening in your area is to visit our new website:

Check back often to get the latest news, volunteer information, issue papers and notes from the road including pictures, audio, and videos from my travels across the Buckeye State as I listen to voters.

SherrodBrown.com has a new look and dozens of new features on the site that I hope you enjoy and find useful throughout the campaign.

Even if Brown had won the primary I wouldn’t support him. I said I would back in the fall but now that Jews for Jesus is out there along with the Swiftboating by Dan Lucas I wouldn’t support Brown in a million years. Neither should Hackett.

I’m not so sure I can say that. I think I side with Paul on beating Mike DeWine. I’ve said it before: A legit primary where Sherrod wins and I’d be pounding pavement like mad for the guy. Might still do it if I can work this sour taste out of my mouth.

I think there are lessons to be learned here…with more to follow.

What’s “Jews for Jesus”? I don’t get that reference.

I got the same letter and was reading it to a friend who pointed out to me how badly even his policy message is framed. He says “We are touring the state speaking out on issues that Ohioans care about most: trade, health care, education, the war in Iraq and the environment.”

“Trade”? That doesn’t mean anything to the guy on the street. Sure, I know he wrote a book on it and it’s his signature issue, but “trade” is never a word a guy on the street would use to frame that issue. He should be saying “jobs” or “the economy,” which are terms people in the state can relate to without further explanation. Overall, very weakly written letter. And yes, there did need to be a direct reaching out to Hackett supporters not this perpetual “shut up and get the hell on board” attitude.

JewsforJesus was one of the anonymous bloggers that we found out was coming from inside the Brown campaign. Do a Buckeye Senate Blog search for that name.
