(hat tip OH02) From The NYT: “Some Democrats Are Sensing Missed Opportunities”
Democrats are heading into this year’s elections in a position weaker than they had hoped for, party leaders say, stirring concern that they are letting pass an opportunity to exploit what they see as widespread Republican vulnerabilities.
So the obvious question is why? I agree with some that Dems can’t just blast the other side – not that they should not blast them, just that this shouldn’t be the only thing. We have to begin talking in a way that lets people know Dems can lead. Point out the fact that the current administration is full of a bunch of followers, not leaders. Followers of the corporate way, not leaders of the American way. People are wearing thin on fear. They are wearing thin on the President’s hyperbolic hypocrisy in telling us we need to get off oil, then listening to an Exxon executive tell us it’s bullshit (hint: we already knew it was bullshit – but not the way you think it is).
We are wearing thin on spending $440 BILLION dollars to both line the pockets of the military industrial complex AND involve ourselves in wars seeking to ensure the addiction continues. We are wearing thin on the Orwellian doublespeak of an administration that has failed miserably at anything remotely close to a peaceful future. We are almost completely worn out upon looking at the mockery this administration has made our country look in the eyes of the world. We know we have more promise than that. We demand it. American has become the land of the scared and the home of the wiretapped…and we are not at all happy about it.
Someone please step up and make us the land of the free and the home of the brave again. We’re waiting in the wings to march proudly with you. Don’t let the bastards continue to hijack our hope. (please drop your donations in the hat as you file through the door and out of this post). Namaste, Eric.
