I wanted to point you all to a movie I saw this weekend that I have been planning on seeing for some time. It is by a friend and local activist here in the Delaware area. Gabrielle is part of 5 Sisters Productions and the movie is “Manna From Heaven”. The story was written by the sisters’ mother and is a very clever and funny tale about a group of people (some family) who get caught up in a windfall of money that literally falls from the sky. The story follows the tale of how one of the characters (a nun) seeks to redeem the entire group by giving back all the money that they split up years ago.
There are several characters and sub-plots to follow as the film develops and it is all very wittingly spun into a very hopeful tale of the human spirit and our ability to relegate ourselves for the benefit of others should we choose.
I encourage you to read more about the film on their site, get it sent to you if you have Netflix (or use your favorite method of renting), buy it if you like it, and most important of all write a review on IMDb. This last thing helps, Gabrielle says, to keep indie films like this out longer and gets more people interested.
The film has an all-star cast, many of whom you will surely recognize (Shirley Jones, Cloris Leachman, Jill Eikenberry, Shelley Duvall, and Wendy Malick, among others). This is a really fun film with a very powerful ending that will leave you feeling good about the world again!
Gabrielle has also been kind enough to provide Plunderbund with a trailer:
…remember: supporting this film supports a local progressive activist!
