Today’s Plain Dealer has an article by Kevin O’Brien: “Reform Ohio Now? No, no, no and no“. I decided to write a quick letter to the editor in response.
The argument that the Democrats need better candidates and that is the only thing wrong with the electoral process in Ohio is laughable. The best candidate in the world cannot win in a situation where voters stand in line for hours due to voting machine scarcity given to us by a partisan political operative who also happens to be the Secretary of State. Even Republican legislators in Columbus acknowledge that the provisions of Issue 2 are long overdue.
If these reform amendments would not have the desired affect, Republicans entrenched in power would not be coming out of the woodwork to disparage them. What are they afraid of? Fair and honest elections? Oh my!
